WHO IS VALERIE TAYLOR AM?
Also known as ‘The Queen of the Ocean’ or ‘The Shark Lady’, Valerie Taylor AM is a conservationist, pioneering diver, shark advocate and photographer.
What many don’t know is that she is also an artist.
‘I will always paint. I was born an artist and I have painted all these years. I wasn’t academic, wasn’t a scientist, this was my only talent’
- Valerie Taylor AM
At age 87 Valerie is still going strong! She has deep connection to South Australia and particularly the Fleurieu Peninsula with her current focus on the protection of the Australian Sea Lion on KI and Hopkins Island.
Valerie’s legacy is being celebrated on screen with the premier of ‘Playing with Sharks’ at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, a feature documentary about her extraordinary life. We have the privilege of hosting Valerie and her team in Victor Harbor for a weekend, offering our community a number of opportunities to hear from her live and connect with her work.
Valerie and Dirk Holman (director of The Sea Lion Recovery Fund) will be hosting A Special Fundraising Event at Victa Cinema on Sunday 28 May from 7:00pm. Opportunity for a Q&A will be available after the showing. Your ticket will help support to the Sea Lion Recovery Fund. A Glass of wine or juice on arrival + popcorn is on us!
