Water People Exhibition

  • Coral Street Art Space 10 Coral Street Victor Harbor, SA, 5211 Australia (map)

Water People is a group exhibition that brings together artists connected to Australia’s ocean and coastal environments, exploring surf, reef systems, migration routes, and saltwater culture. The exhibition reflects on our relationship with the sea and the seasonal presence of Southern Right Whales.

Curated by Maria Ellers, this show aligns with Victor Harbor’s Whale Festival and explores humanity’s deep connection to water.

Featuring works by Gerry Wedd (ceramics), Rita Kluge (ocean photography), Mark Callaghan (abstract reef-inspired art), David Cocks, John Ogden, Tim Bonython (surf photography), Amanda Westley (Saltwater Dreamtime), and Mark Rhodes, the exhibition celebrates cultural heritage, sustainability, and the spiritual significance of oceans and waterways.

Visitors will encounter ceramics, photography, and mixed media that evoke the beauty and fragility of aquatic environments. The exhibition showcases works inspired by oceans, rivers, and aquatic life, highlighting themes of sustainability, cultural heritage, and the spiritual significance of water across communities.

A special screening by surf filmmaker Tim Bonython will also feature at the Victa Cinema during the program.
